last night i saw shame, a movie by british director steve mcqueen. i ended up talking about the following video twice, once with fellow black comics and once with my movie companion (also black).
if you listen closely, you can hear the sad loser horns from the price is right. seriously, though - i told my friend that i kind of wished one of the directors had spoken up and said, from his heart, “well…honestly, i kind of don’t get them. black people, i mean. i don’t get them.” you gotta admit your part in the disparity before we can move on and have a meaningful discussion about it.
